Self-care products
As a massage therapist currently having acute back pain and and a full schedule I go through my house & office like a kid in a candy store! Lots of ways to aid in my recovery around here - hot packs, FSM, cryotherapy products, hot therapy rubs, magnesium oil, massager, and ibuprofen (I did take 1).
Where did it come from?
The pain started yesterday after my first client. It showed up as an upper hip ache & in the SI joint (sacroiliac joint). I couldn’t identify how I irritated it, until the next day and I was back working on my first client. This client was a full body session, the same as yesterday’s first client. A deep tissue, full body massage is a totally different use of my body compared to when I’m doing a neck and jaw focused session. As I planted my feet on the floor for a deep glide, my feet slid! Then my hips and low back grabbed in reaction to support me.
NAILED IT!
Even though these shoes didn’t look old on the upper, the grip that I rely on went away. Now that I found the trigger of my acute injury I can do something so this doesn’t happen next week. In this case, not wear those shoes anymore.
How I think through my client’s pain
This is how I think through my client’s pains or headaches. I look for the story. I try to think through their eyes. Short term and long term use or misuse of their body. What keeps triggering their pain and how to adjust their environment or habits.
My construction worker client needed to take his wallet out of his back pocket when driving and once home to address his low back pain.
My broad chested office worker with shoulder pain needed to adjust his office set up with a wider wireless keyboard and a higher monitor.
My current desk worker used to be a long term barmaid and cocktail waitress. Her shoulder & hip imbalance were from years shaking drinks and carrying trays. Now we can retrain the body.
Let’s figure out your pain
I always appreciate when clients tell me the truth about how they live their lives, do their work & hobbies. Your stories help me untangle and give a reason for your pain so we can address it on the table and give you the support going forward. I’m listening.
